CUMBERLAND — Mercy Sister M. Pieta Blais, 91, a retired educator, died March 4 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre.
Born Rita Mary Blais in Seekonk, MA, she was the daughter of Joseph and Louise (Scott) Blais. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on September 8, 1940 and professed her vows on August 16, 1946. She earned a bachelor of science degree from the former Catholic Teachers College, Providence.
Sister Blais taught in elementary schools in the Diocese of Providence for 35 years. She also served as the librarian at Catholic-Johnston Regional School from 1967 to 1978.
She is survived by a brother, Bernard Blais, of North Attleboro, MA. She was the sister of the late Sister M. Elaine Blais, VMI, Oveline Clavette, George, Irving, Vincent and Charles Blais.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 9 at Mount St. Rita Chapel. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery.
