Sister M. Alminda Diniz

CUMBERLAND— Sister M. Alminda Diniz, 86, a Sister of Mercy and a former child care provider, died on Saturday, October 20at Mount St. Rita Health Centre.

Born in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Alminda (Medeiros) Diniz.

She entered the Sisters of Mercy on February 2, 1946 and professed her perpetual vows on August 16, 1951.

Sister Alminda's primary work was child care, a ministry in which she excelled because she wanted to be sure that “the little ones” were provided the best care she could give. She began this ministry at St. Vincent Home, Fall River; in later years, she was a group supervisor in this ministry where she began. Sister also ministered at Holy Ghost Child Care Center in Providence, which was affiliated with Holy Ghost Parish and School. In her work with children she also was assigned to Nazareth Hall in Fall River and the John E. Boyd Center where she continued her work with children.

She leaves a sister, Phyllis A. Moniz of Fall River and a brother, Franklin L. Diniz of Salt Lake City, Utah, and nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Agnes Diniz; Mary Pemberton; Manuel, Antone and James Diniz; and Louis G. Cabral.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Mount St. Rita Chapel, Cumberland. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
