Sister Jacqueline Lemieux, SUSC

PAWTUCKET – Holy Union Sister Jacqueline Lemieux, formerly Sister Anne Melanie, 74, of St. Cecilia Residence, died July 13.

Born in Taunton, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Helen (Nolin) Lemieux.

Sister Lemieux graduated from the former St. Mary High School, Taunton. She entered the Holy Union Sisters in Groton, Mass., on Sept. 8, 1955, and pronounced her final vows on July 27, 1964. She studied at the Sacred Heart Teacher Training School, Groton, and received a bachelor’s degree in history from Boston College and a master’s degree in history from Indiana University. She completed additional studies at Harvard University and in the Pastoral Ministry Program at Boston College.

Sister Lemieux taught junior high and high school classes for more than 40 years. In the Diocese of Providence, she ministered at the former St. John the Baptist School, St. Raphael Academy and St. Cecilia School, all in Pawtucket. From 2002 until the time of her death, she served as assistant in the Holy Union Sisters Finance Office.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 17 at St. Cecilia Church, Pawtucket. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery, Taunton, Mass.
