Sister Helen Poland, R.S.M, 86


CUMBERLAND—Mercy Sister Helen Poland, 86, formerly Sister Mary Albert, a retired teacher, died Sept. 14 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre.

Baptized Helen Mary Poland in Providence, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Dalton) Poland.

She entered the Sisters of Mercy on September 8, 1941 and professed her vows on August 16, 1947.

Sister Poland taught in the elementary schools of theDiocese of Providence for 54 years. Her longest ministries were at St. Patrick School, Providence and St.

Mary Academy-Bay View, Riverside, where she served for 30 years. She retired in 1998.

She is survived by a brother, Vincent Poland of East Providence.

She was the sister of the late Margaret Bonvicin; and James, William, George, Thomas, Richard and John Poland.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Sept. 17 in Mount St. Rita Chapel. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
