NORTH PROVIDENCE — Franciscan Missionary of Mary Sister Cecile Couture, a member of the Queen of Peace Community, North Providence, died August 22 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital.

She was born in Manchester, N.H., the daughter of the late Donat and Rose Anna (Fortier) Couture.

Sister Couture entered the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary on Sept. 12, 1939 in North Providence and professed her final vows on March 19, 1946 at St. Clement's Eucharistic Shrine, Boston.

Her ministries throughout her religious life were in nursing and nursing education and included St. Francis Sanatorium, now called St. Francis Hospital, Roslyn, New York, and in the Department of Training and Education at Rhode Island Medical Center, Cranston, where she prepared certified nursing assistants for licensure exams.

Sister Couture also taught at Salve Regina College, and English to Hispanic and Vietnamese immigrants. She was active in parish music ministry.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A?Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 25 in Holy Family Chapel. Burial was in the Holy Family Cemetery, North Providence.
