Sister Anne M. Richards, F.M.M., 84

NORTH SMITHFIELD — Franciscan Missionary of Mary Sister Anne M. Richards, 84, a member of the Ein Karim Community, died March 16 at St. Antoine Residence.

She entered the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary on Sept. 17, 1944 and pronounced her final vows on March 19, 1950 at the Holy Family Novitiate, North Providence.

Sister Richards was sent on mission to Kobe, Japan where she served as a teacher and principal of the Stella Maris International School.

In 1964, she pursued advanced studies and also taught in Manila, Philippines.

Sister Richards was subsequently transferred to Holy Family Novitiate, North Providence where she served as the Directress of Novices. She later served as the director of the Divine Providence Child Care Agency and coordinator of her community.

She was reassigned to Japan and resumed her teaching ministry, before being sent to Visitation Community in Cambridge, Mass., where she taught English as a Second Language. Sister Richards later served in North Providence as a local coordinator.

She is survived by a sister, Patricia Rayburn of Glendora, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 19 in Holy Family Chapel. Burial was in Holy Family Cemetery, Fruit Hill, North Providence.
