Shameful to change rules to avoid legislative defeat

TO THE EDITOR:

In light of what happened at the RI State House last week regarding the legislation on abortion, the R.I. State Senate should be ashamed. Playing a game fairly means you can’t change the rules in the middle of it even when you think you will lose. Switching the jurisdiction for the “Reproductive Rights Bill” from the Judiciary Committee where it was slated to lose the vote, after losing one already, to the Health and Human Services Committee where a greater possibility of the bill’s passage exists is reprehensible. Senators show little integrity by participating in this Machiavellian maneuver. It is shameful.
