Hundreds of school choice supporters are expected to attend a showcase Thursday in the State House rotunda on the wide variety of educational options in Rhode Island and rally for increased access to opportunity at a day of events timed to coincide with National School Choice Week. The event, planned for January 25 at 2 p.m., will feature students, parents, and teachers from Catholic, Christian, Jewish, and independent schools. The rally will be preceded by a luncheon with Jonathan Butcher, education director for the Goldwater Institute and national recognized expert on school choice. More than 450 people are expected to attend the day’s events at the Rhode Island State House. The goal of the event is to highlight the support for school choice in Rhode Island from families and school leaders across the educational spectrum. The celebration is timed to coincide with National School Choice Week (January 21-27), which will feature more than 32,000 events across the country. “We are excited to have a variety of our private schools across the state join the celebration of school choice in Rhode Island. Every January, we gather at the State House to make sure our leaders hear how important expanding school choice is to families across Rhode Island,” said Sheila Konis, director of Rhode Island Families for School Choice. Event planners include Rhode Island Families for School Choice and Ed Choice Rhode Island.
