On September 22, Cardinal Angelo Amato, prefect for the Congregation for Saints’ Causes, presided over the beatification of Father Louis Brisson, founder of the Oblates and Oblate Sisters of St. Francis de Sales.

When France adopted a strict church-state separation law in 1905, religious schools were closed and many priests and religious sisters were expelled from France. Father Brisson continued to work tirelessly for the people and during those years of affliction, his serenity and faith in God shone through. He died on Feb. 2, 1908, the Feast of the Purification of Mary, at the age of 91. Father Brisson’s feast day will be Oct. 12.
