PORTSMOUTH — Saint Philomena School students joined 178 others from 19 schools at Rhode Island College on Saturday, March 23 to compete in the state round of the National History Day competition.
National History Day provides an opportunity for students to engage in meaningful historical research and develop projects in a variety of categories including exhibits, documentaries, websites, papers, and performances. The top two award winners from each category earn a spot to compete in the national competition at the University of Maryland at College Park.
Special congratulations to the following students: First Place Junior Group Documentary: Katherine Deus and Ashley Quintal; First Place Junior Individual Website: Katherine Pajak; First Place Junior Individual Documentary: Zachary Quintal; Second Place Junior Individual Paper: Olivia Kapogiannis; Second Place Junior Group Performance: Helena Pajak and Avary Serpa; Second Place Junior Individual Performance: Elizabeth Jones; Third Place Junior Group Performance: Layla Grilli and Ellee Whittington; Rhode Island Labor Society Award: Christopher DeSantis Individual Exhibit.
