Rev. Paul F. Reynolds

WEST WARWICK — Rev. Paul F. Reynolds, 78, Pastor Emeritus of Saint Mary Church, West Warwick, died Monday, October 30, 2017.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Francis A. and Dorothy C. (Cavanaugh) Reynolds. He attended South Woodlawn and Saint Mary Schools, as well as Saint Raphael Academy, all in Pawtucket.

In preparation for the priesthood, he studied at Our Lady of Providence Seminary in Warwick Neck and Saint Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland. He was ordained a priest on June 5, 1965 at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul in Providence by Bishop Russell J. McVinney.

Father Reynolds served as assistant pastor in the following parishes: Blessed Sacrament, Providence (1965-69); Saint Lawrence, North Providence (1969-1982) and Saint Martha, East Providence (1982-1992).

On January 23, 1992 he was appointed pastor of Saint Mary Church, West Warwick, and served there until November 19, 2007, when he retired as Pastor Emeritus. During his retirement, Father resided at Saint Martha Rectory in East Providence. In his final years, Father lived at St. Jeanne Jugan Residence in Pawtucket.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Lois Allard of Pawtucket and by nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Peter Reynolds.

A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was offered for the repose of his soul on November 4 at Saint Martha Church, East Providence, with Bishop Robert C. Evans as the principal celebrant and Rev. Douglas J. Spina, serving as the homilist. Bishops Louis E. Gelineau, Francis X. Roque and Ernest E. Boland and other priests concelebrated the funeral Mass.

Burial was in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.
