Religious jubilarians to be honored for years of service to Church

WARWICK — Religious priests, sisters and brothers celebrating jubilee anniversaries will be honored for their years of service to the Church during a noon Mass at St. Kevin Church, Warwick, this Sunday, May 14.

Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will preside at the celebratory Mass, an annual event organized by the diocesan Office for Religious to honor the many religious jubilarians who have dedicated themselves to lives of service and prayer in the Diocese of Providence. Sixty-five jubilarians will be recognized for their work in ministries of teaching, healthcare, parish support and various other charisms in the life of the Church.

Sister Elizabeth Castro, director of the Office for Religious, noted the importance of the annual event for the entire religious community, which includes close to 500 religious priests, sisters and brothers serving in the diocese.

“We want to honor our religious priests, brothers and sisters in the Diocese of Providence for their many years of faithful service to our Lord Jesus Christ and his Church. Their love for Jesus Christ and his Church is itself a blessing to all here in the diocese,” she said.

Sister Castro also noted the importance of the event in celebrating vocations and the willingness of members of the religious life to respond to the vocational call and fulfill their dedication to the Lord through various ministries of the Church.

“Their faithful commitment that they have fulfilled for many years in their ministry and that, with great joy, continue to do through their various charisms is the expression of the profound relationship they have with the Lord in prayer,” she said. “Therefore, it is also a day of thanksgiving to our Lord for his love as he continues calling many to this beautiful vocation of consecrated life.”

All are welcome to join in recognizing those celebrating jubilee anniversaries by attending the jubilarian Mass.
