Providence College announces first director of The Center @ Moore Hall

PROVIDENCE — Providence College (PC) recently announced that Dr. Shan Mukhtar will be the inaugural director of the Center @ Moore Hall on the PC campus. In this new role, Dr. Mukhtar will rely on her background in diversity research and programming to develop the vision for this new cultural arts center, and to further the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Providence College. The Center @ Moore Hall is a cultural space that promotes diverse interactions and facilitates community-based social change through public arts, scholarship, and learning for all students, faculty, staff, and members of the local Smith Hill and Elmhurst communities.

Dr. Mukhtar, who will be a member of the College’s Office of Institutional Diversity staff, was most recently assistant director of ESL at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English/Creative Writing from Georgia State University and master’s and doctorate degrees in Critical Race & Ethnic Studies from Emory.

Founded in 1917, Providence College is the only college or university in the United States administered by the Dominican Friars and has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 4,000 students. Providence College consistently has been ranked among the top five regional universities in the North according to U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges.”
