Prout School educator honored with Golden Apple Award

WAKEFIELD — Mallory Lepere, Student Service Coordinator at The Prout School, received the Golden Apple Award on April 27 at a surprise ceremony at the school.

On hand for the ceremony were Lepere; Prout student Isis Gardiner, her nominator; Lepere’s family; the administration of The Prout School;Patrice Wood of NBC 10; Dr. Ken Wagner, Commissioner of the Rhode Island Department of Education; Rhode Island Teacher of the Year Kristin Hayes-Leite; and Daniel Ferris, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Providence.

The Golden Apple Award, which is given out weekly, honors those who believe in the true spirit of teaching by making classrooms a creative and safe place to learn. NBC 10, Hasbro, and the Rhode Island Department of Education distribute this award to recognize outstanding teachers in Rhode Island communities.

“Ms. Lepere spreads the message ‘be the change you wish to see in the world,’” said Gardiner, a junior at Prout. “She is so positive and can really change the hearts of the world and the hearts of her students.”

Lepere has served at The Prout School for the past two years and will receive a $250 contribution from Hasbro provided by the Kids in Need Foundation to help her fund her classroom needs, as well as a gift bag from Thames & Kosmos.
