Please support Rhode Island Catholic’s ministry this Christmas

Posted

At a time when some diocesan newspapers around the country have been shuttered or have reduced their production schedules due to high production costs, Rhode Island Catholic, which was founded in 1875, has remained steadfast in its mission to bring comprehensive coverage of the faith, family and life of the Diocese of Providence into thousands of homes across the state each week. That mission also includes the production of El Católico, our monthly Spanish language edition, as well as the annual diocesan directory.
Our ministry of ‘Bringing the Good News to Your Doorstep’ is only made possible through a strong partnership between the diocese and our readers. While generous diocesan support forms the core of our business model, Rhode Island Catholic also relies heavily on paid subscriptions from our readers, classified and display advertising sales, along with the sale of photographs we feature in our pages to meet our operating costs. Printing and mailing the newspaper to homes each week alone costs Rhode Island Catholic several hundred thousand dollars a year.
This week and next, our dedicated readers are invited to make a special gift to help further support our ministry of evangelization, with envelopes being included with the newspaper to facilitate contributions to our Christmas Appeal.

Bishop Thomas J. Tobin, publisher of Rhode Island Catholic, has said that the newspaper continues to be an essential part of the communications effort of the Diocese of Providence, featuring news and information about the Church from near and far, while also serving as a useful source of information for parishes, schools and organizations.
“Each week it provides important news and informed opinion about the Church — around the world, nationally and locally — that can be found nowhere else,” Bishop Tobin said. “I encourage the faithful readers of our paper to be generous once again this year in our annual Christmas Appeal.”
Every gift makes a difference and will help our newspaper to continue its long-standing mission.

We are grateful for your support of our ministry and wish each of you a Blessed Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
