Persecuting religious traditions

Posted

TO THE EDITOR:

When Roger Williams founded Rhode Island on the principal of religious freedom, it included ALL religions. If Jesus had not been born 2011 years ago, we would not have Christmas today.

Christmas provides great economic opportunity to business around the world, not to mention a beautiful holiday in which we all share the birth of Jesus and the tradition of giving to others.

The early Christians were persecuted for their beliefs and I feel that today, we suffer a form of persecution in that our beautiful Christmas traditions are now referred to simply and plainly as "holidays." Gov. Chafee, ACLU and all the rest — to you I say:

This year, may you experience a merry and blessed Christmas!
