WOONSOCKET — Relevant Radio (550 AM), a national Catholic radio network, recently celebrated one-year of broadcasting in the Diocese of Providence and the surrounding area with special events throughout the past month.

Students of Mount Saint Charles Academy were honored to take part in the anniversary celebration, broadcasting live from the school. The “Go Ask Your Father Show” was not only heard on 550 AM, but on Relevant Radio’s network of 35 stations across 13 states. For an hour, Mount students asked questions of faith answered by the host of the show, Father Francis Hoffman, “Father Rocky.”

During his visit to the diocese in celebration of the station’s anniversary, Father Rocky, the executive director of Relevant Radio, served as keynote speaker at the 46th annual Faith Formation Convocation on March 16, telling an audience of about 1,100 in attendance that they shared in Christ's Great Commission to preach the Gospel and baptize all nations.

“We need to talk about the faith, to be excited about the faith. We have to invite people, to stretch our necks out and take a risk,” in the mission to evangelize the faith in new ways, Father Rocky said to those gathered at the convocation, which was held at Bryant University. Father Rocky also served as the guest speaker for the Heart of Worship event on March 17, which included adoration, music, reflection and prayer.

According to a press release issued from the station’s parent company, the support for Relevant Radio exceeded all expectations during their anniversary dinner held at the historic Biltmore Hotel in downtown Providence.

“It was wonderful to have so many enthusiastic listeners and supporters at the event as well as our newest board member from Providence, Joseph V. Cavanagh,” said representatives from Relevant Radio.

Cavanagh, an attorney from Warwick, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Starboard Media Foundation, Inc., the parent company of Relevant Radio.

Representatives of the Catholic radio station also shared that they are grateful for the guidance of Bishop?Thomas J.?Tobin and look forward to working with the bishop and the Diocese of Providence “as together we bring the message of hope to all who seek to know and love Our Lord, Jesus Christ.”

According to Relevant Radio, the station has been helping people bridge the gap between faith and everyday life since December 2000. Thought-provoking and engaging dialogue, commentary and listener call-in programs are the hallmarks of Relevant Radio 24 hours a day, seven days per week. The national headquarters of this listener-supported lay apostolate are located in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
