Our Lady of Mercy School’s Science Olympiad Team, made up of 19 sixth through eighth graders, earned five medals including two gold in the middle school division at the Rhode Island State Science Olympiad Competition at Rhode Island College on Saturday, April 1. Out of 24 teams, OLM finished in the top 10 or higher in 14 of the 22 events. The team finished ninth out of 24 teams. Led by OLM Middle School Science Teacher Dr. Deborah Husak, the team has been preparing since the fall under the additional guidance of OLM parents and friends who volunteered their time as coaches. The 2017 OLM Team members included Casey McQuesten, Aidan Skidds, Bryan Hong, Colin Butera, Jake Rademacher, Patrick Torres, Santino Izzi, Yaduvir Mangray, Deirdre Stockdill, Jack Ciunci, Jayci Izzi, Luke Simms, Maddie Laviolette, Thomas Simonetti, Sophie Brunner and Emma van Meeteren.
