New principals ready to take the helm

PROVIDENCE — Two new school educators have been appointed as principals to local Catholic schools. The Diocese of Providence welcomes Karen M. Swoboda and Mary Tetzner.

Swoboda, an educator with nearly 40 years of classroom and administrative experience, has been appointed as principal of Monsignor Matthew F. Clark School, a co-educational Catholic school in Wakefield that serves 310 pre-kindergarten through 8th grade students.

“I am thrilled and honored to be the incoming principal at Msgr. Clarke and look forward to meeting the entire community in the coming days and weeks,” said Swoboda. “My focus will be to support the learning and teaching of our students and staff as we move forward together to build upon past academic and personal success for the students of Msgr. Clark.”

Swoboda holds a B. A. in history, secondary education and Journalism, and a M.A. in Reading Education from the University of Rhode Island. She is pursuing a doctorate in education at Johnson & Wales University.

Father Michael Sisco, pastor of Blessed Pope John Paul II Parish, has appointed Tetzner, an educator with nearly 30 years of classroom and administrative experience, as principal of St. Cecilia’s School.

“I feel a Catholic education takes an important role favoring the physical, intellectual, and moral development of the person,” said Tetzner. “A Catholic school should play an integral role in evangelizing the mission of the church. The school should foster in students a sense of engagement and a love of learning.”

Tetzner holds a B.S. in home economics from the University of Rhode Island and a M.A. in secondary administration from Providence College. With experience in curriculum development, strategic school planning, common core standards, teaching mentoring, and many other school initiatives.
