PROVIDENCE — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence has announced the appointment of Ms. Cheryl Brennan as the new Controller for the Fiscal Office. She succeeds Tim Kocab who retired after more than 40 years of service.

“I am pleased that Cheryl has accepted this appointment and look forward to working with her,” said Monsignor Raymond Bastia, Vicar for Planning and Finance. “Cheryl served as the Assistant Controller for many years and was considered the best qualified. I am confident that she has the knowledge and abilities to continue to lead this important office.”

Cheryl has been working for the diocese for 30 years, the last 20 years as Assistant Controller. She is a resident of South Kingstown and a parishioner of Christ the King Church in Kingston. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy-Bay View High School and the American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.

“I’m excited about this great opportunity and believe my many years in the Fiscal Office have given me the experience needed,” said Brennan. “I am proud of my department and all of the services they provide as well as their accomplishments. It’s been my pleasure to assist the Church and its mission.”

As Diocesan Controller, Cheryl will be responsible for the department’s operation, staffing and its related activities. The Fiscal Office provides financial management and accounting services throughout the diocese. The position is also a resource for parishes, agencies and schools in areas of corporate and general operations.
