The Mercymount Country Day School in Cumberland recently participated in a project to benefit the citizens of Puerto Rico in the aftermath of the recent hurricane. Third grader Alexandra Terrien, pictured above, asked Principal Gretchen Hawley if the students could collect items of need for the devastated island. The project, United for Puerto Rico, was organized in the state by The Puerto Rican Professional Association of Rhode Island, located in Providence. The school community donated various items including comforters, blankets, food, diapers and water. The items were delivered to the association offices who will arrange for delivery to Puerto Rico.
