Just when I think the Providence Journal has reached a new low, it keeps on digging. What does its self-styled “campaign poll” (Sunday, Oct. 14) have to do with Bishop Tobin’s performance? Is he running for office or just running for cover against the Journal’s biased news?
In a not-so-subtly connected issue, the Journal reports that 56 percent of the Rhode Islanders it polled “strongly support” a bill to protect legalized abortion. That question was open-ended. Did it extend to children in their “Terrible Twos?” In 1861, the overwhelming majority of South Carolinians supported slavery. Did that make slavery right? Consider the consequences of that majority opinion, namely, the lives of about 750,000 adult Americans aborted. Vox populi is not always Vox Dei!
