Maine victory sends message, don’t mess with marriage!

Posted

Last Tuesday’s decisive victory in Maine‘s referendum vote was a clear rejection of the attempt by the radical homosexual marriage movement to foist the redefinition of marriage upon the people of that state.

National homosexual marriage groups viewed Maine as an opportunity to win and “break” the growing movement to protect and preserve marriage across the nation. They outspent their opponents by nearly two to one. Yet voters rejected the radical social experiment approved by Maine’s Governor and Legislature earlier this year by an even larger margin than last year’s vote to reject homosexual marriage in California.

The effort to protect and preserve marriage in Maine was led by a coalition of religious leaders including Bishop Richard Malone of Portland who were not only courageous but steadfast in their support of the sacrament of marriage. The homosexual marriage organization drew millions of dollars of support from across the nation but apparently drew little support from residents of Maine. The decisive victory in Maine is not an act of bigotry or an attack on “civil rights’’ rather it proves that the arguments for redefining marriage are not only illogical but also unacceptable to reasonable people.

Thirty-one states have now rejected and repudiated the radical social experiment of homosexual marriage. Maine’s victory is also Rhode Island’s victory. It is a clarion call to the members of the Rhode Island General Assembly and candidates for political office in the Ocean State, “Don’t Mess with Marriage!”
