PROVIDENCE — The Most Rev. Shelton J. Fabre, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, Louisiana, and Chair of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops Ad-Hoc Committee Against Racism, will speak on the upcoming November report on Racism from US Conference of Catholic Bishops Ad-Hoc Committee Against Racism, Monday, September 17 at 7 p.m., McVinney Auditorium, 43 Dave Gavitt Way, Providence.
The evening's program, "Where Do We Go from Here," will draw from the findings of the work of the Ad-Hoc Committee Against Racism and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Where Do We Go From Here?” speech, delivered at the 11th Annual SCLC Convention, Atlanta, Georgia, August 16, 1967. Included in the evening's program is the Bishop McVinney Catholic School Youth Choir as well as the sharing of personal experiences from the faithful relative to racism and their hopes for the future.
Bishop Fabre said of the committee's work, "My hope rests in my belief in the goodness of human nature, my belief in all people of good will, that together, as we seek to encounter one another, we might come to a greater understanding of how our racial and ethnic diversities enrich our communities and appreciate the fact that there are far more things that unite us than that divide us."
