Litany for Mother’s Day

God, you have created and nurtured us as a mother, we bless you and give

you praise.

Mothers of us all, living here or in eternity, bless our God.

Mothers of healthy, happy children, bless our God.

Mothers of ill or troubled children, bless our God.

Mothers of children who are well fed and cared for, bless our God.

Mothers of loved children, bless our God.

Mothers of abused children, bless our God.

Mothers of hungry children, bless our God.

Mothers of children of freedom, bless our God.

Mothers of children of oppression, bless our God.

Mothers of children who can go to school and learn, bless our God.

Mothers whose children have to work at an early age, bless our God.

Mothers whose children have disappeared, bless our God.

Mothers of children who have been tortured and murdered, bless our God.

Mothers whose children have died young from disease or poverty, bless our God.

Mothers in exile, bless our God.

Mothers of children who learn to share and care for others, bless our God.

Mothers of children who commit crimes, bless our God.

Mothers of children whose skin is black, bless our God.

Mothers of children whose skin is white, bless our God.

Mothers of children whose skin is red, bless our God.

Mothers of children whose skin is yellow, bless our God.

Mothers of sorrow and pain, bless our God.

Mothers of joy and life, bless our God.

Mothers who are young and frightened, bless our God.

Mothers who are older and tired, bless our God.

Mothers who are happy to be mothers, bless our God.

Mothers who are confused by motherhood, bless our God.

Mothers who have to work and worry about their children being home

without them, bless our God.

Mothers who are able to be at home with their children, bless our God.

Mothers who have the support of loving husbands, bless our God.

Mothers who are unmarried, widowed or divorced, bless our God.

Mothers who are on welfare and long to be free of it, bless our God.

Mothers who live in cities of violence and fear, bless our God.

Mothers in suburbs of isolation and alienation, bless our God.

Mothers who are at home with their God and teach their children to be

at home with God, bless our God.

Mothers who feel distant from God and the people of God, bless our God.

Mothers who are battered and abused, bless our God.

Mothers who are loved and respected, bless our God.

Mothers of war-torn countries, bless our God.

Mothers who enjoy peace, bless our God.

Mothers of the first world and second world and third world, bless our God.

Mothers who choose to give birth in the face of opposition, bless our God.

Mother of God, Mary most holy, bless our God.

Through all the mothers of our world, all praise and glory to God, now and

forever. Amen
