LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Let’s get the numbers correct

To the Editor:

How can Stephen Kent, in his column of January 7, state that, "The decade is over?"

The year just ended was the ninth year of the first decade of the 21st Century. It did not begin with "Y2K!" The year 2000 was the final year of the Twentieth Century and the Second Millenium, Anno Domini. I find it amazing that educated people are misled by the numbers. Decades do not begin with years that end in zero, they end with them. Is a child a year old on the first day of life? Really now.
