PROVIDENCE - Four La Salle Academy students have won key awards in the Rhode Island Scholastic art competition. Each received the award at a ceremony held recently at Rhode Island College, and their work was exhibited in the college's Bannister Gallery.

Kyla Paolucci '07, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Frederick Paolucci of North Providence and a parishioner of Our Lady of Grace in Johnston, was awarded a Gold Key for her Fine Art Portfolio. The Fine Art Portfolio award is one of only 12 which are given statewide.

Angelo Balassone '07, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Angelo Balassone of Cranston and a member of Holy Apostles Parish; and Britni Sweet '07, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Sweet of Warwick and a parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Church, were recipients of the Gold Key Award in Drawing.

Elizabeth Quinn' 08, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John Quinn of Pawtucket and a member of St. Joseph Parish, received a Silver Key in Drawing.

The artwork of all Gold Key recipients has been forwarded to New York City to be assessed on a national level. Graduating Seniors who have won Gold Keys in the Fine Art Portfolio category compete for local and national scholarships bestowed by the regional programs, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, and a network of arts institutes, colleges and universities.

All La Salle Academy students who received Gold Keys this year have been involved in a three-year course of study which includes Visual Studies, Advanced Drawing, and Advanced Placement Studio. These students have already been accepted at major art programs, including Parson-The New School for Design, Ringling School of Art and Design, University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, The School of Visual Arts and Rhode Island School of Design.
