Joseph D. Santos, 86

MIDDLETOWN — Joseph D. Santos, 86, of Bristol, died November 21 at the Grand Islander Nursing Home. He was the father of Father Joseph D. Santos Jr., administrator of Holy Name of Jesus Church, Providence, and the husband of the late Jessie L. (McNally) Santos.

Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident of that town, he was the son of the late Armando and Conceicao (Almeida) Santos.

He worked as a registered pharmacist and was the oldest living pharmacist in Rhode Island. He was employed by the former County Road Pharmacy in Barrington for 60 years, and before retiring in 2002 also worked for Campagna’s Pharmacy for 15 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran, and was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Church.

In addition to Father Santos, he is survived by a daughter, Gloria E. Pasqual; and two other sons, Robert L. Santos and Harold E. Santos, all of Bristol; and a sister, Emily Santos of Bristol. He was also the brother of the late Mary O’Connor and Irene Santos.

A Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated November 25 in St. Elizabeth Church. Burial with military honors was in St. Mary Cemetery, Bristol.
