It’s time for families, friends to reconnect with the Church

TO THE EDITOR:

Bishop Thomas J. Tobin recently said the number of priests reaching retirement age is increasing rapidly. He noted that we are losing more priests from active ministry than can be replaced and that it requires eight years of formation for ordination to the priesthood. Parishes are merging because fewer people are attending Mass and churches are finding it harder to make ends meet. This is a wake-up call — in order to keep church doors open, we need priests and people to attend Mass. The faithful must continue to pray for vocations. It’s time to pray and reach out to families and friends to attend Mass. Faith is a gift from God. The church invites all to return to the Lord with your whole heart, mind and soul to have a relationship with Jesus. First, by receiving the Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ. Dramatic changes in our culture have changed people to live without God. Especially the young, whose view has been shaped to some degree by the media and entertainment world industry.
