PROVIDENCE —The Diocese of Providence Office of Life & Family invites the community to the 16th annual Human Life Guild Mass on Friday, October 2 at 12:05 p.m., on the Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels, at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Cathedral Square, Providence. Due to COVID-19 and in lieu of Human Life Guild Day, this special Mass will open the diocesan 2020 Respect Life Month.
Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will serve as main celebrant and homilist. Immediately following the Mass will be the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament until 3 p.m.
The new Coordinator of the Office of Life and Family Ministry Lisa Cooley shared that the Human Life Guild Mass comes at a special time coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the papal encyclical “Evangelium Vitae” (The Gospel of Life), written by Pope St. John Paul II. This document reaffirms the greatness and value of human life.
“As Catholics we are called to cherish, defend and protect those who are most vulnerable,” said Cooley. “From the beginning of life to its end and at every point in between. During the month of October the Church asks us to reflect more deeply on the dignity of every human life. This is the 25th anniversary of ‘The Gospel of Life’ and Pope Francis reminds us, our parishes need to be ‘Islands of mercy in the midst of a sea of indifference.’ Let’s come together as a people of life to pray for all life.
Please RSVP your attendance at the Human life Guild Mass to Lisa Cooley by Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020, by emailing LCooley@DioceseofProvidence.org or calling 401-278-2518. Mask wearing and seating for the Mass is in compliance with all COVID-19 protocols.
