LETTER TO THE EDITOR

‘Holiday’ is Holy Day

Posted

TO THE EDITOR:

I’m only 10, and I know there are many problems I’m too young to solve, but the confusion the Governor has caused by calling a Christmas tree a “holiday tree” is really unnecessary.

First, the word “holiday” itself comes from the word “h?ligdæg” which actually means “Holy Day” and was used only for special religious days. Second, are there any other “holidays” that have a tree? It all seems pretty basic. I’m just glad that I attend a school where we can have a Christmas Pageant and a Christmas Bazaar and celebrate the birth of Christ.

Merry Christmas to all!
