Help us Connect with Christ Through the Catholic Communication Campaign Collection June 8 & 9

PROVIDENCE — Today, with technology able to provide instant communication with homes around the world, the Catholic Church is striving to use all of the modern means of communications available to share its message. While the means are available, they are also expensive to employ.
That is why the annual Catholic Communication Campaign Collection is so important. Donations to the CCC supports national and local initiatives that help church communicators connect your world with God’s word through mass media.
Fifty percent of funds collected remain in each diocese to support local communications efforts. The other half is used to support national projects in the United States and in developing countries around the world.
In the Diocese of Providence, the Office of Communications leads the internal and external communications initiatives to ensure the Catholic Church’s priorities in Rhode Island are effectively expressed in a variety of ways between Church leadership, parishes, schools, the community and the media.
Resources donated to the Catholic Communication Campaign Collection each year are used to maintain the diocesan website: www.dioceseofprovidence.org, providing the faith community with news and information about the work of the Church. A growing component of the communications strategy is the diocese’s social media outreach, which boasts digital initiatives spread out over several of the popular social media websites, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo and the new Mobile App.
The Communications Office also produces a wide variety of programming for cable television that educates, entertains and inspires the faithful. Some of the programs include, “This is the Life,” produced in cooperation with the diocesan Office of Life and Family; “The Rhode Island Catholic Hour,” which is devoted to special events, liturgies, Advent lessons and carols and Lenten missions. The office also recently launched the new biweekly “Seek and Find Series,” which aims to evangelize and inspire Catholics about their faith. The series is posted on the diocesan website as well as on YouTube.
Catholics are encouraged to be as generous as possible in their support of this vitally important ministry. Thank you for your support of this annual effort that will be held as a second collection at Masses the weekend of June 8-9.
