Valedictorian Samuel Chretien, a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Parish, East Greenwich, who plans to attend Brown University in the fall, addressed his classmates, reminiscing on favorite moments and offering advice for the future.

“Life is simply too short for procrastination,” he said. “In the years ahead, do the things that you’re passionate about, try new things, and don’t put off anything meaningful in your life, because in 10 or 15 years you’ll do anything to be back in the position that we’re in right now.”

Salutatorian Alexandra Russell and Class President Conor King also addressed the graduates, reminding them to thank those who supported them during their high school years.

“I realized nothing we could do could fully repay the kindness shown and the sacrifices made by all those that helped us over the last four years,” said King. “The way we can show them our gratitude is by how we use the many gifts they have given us.”

School Chaplain Father Joseph Upton offered the invocation, while Auxiliary Bishop Robert C. Evans presented diplomas to the graduates and offered the closing benediction. Principal David Estes addressed the graduates following the awarding of diplomas, assuring them of the school’s continued support.

“Whatever direction your life takes, remember that you are a crusader now, you are a crusader forever, and that The Prout School, which has been made better because of you, will always be a home for you,” he said.

Three of the school’s highest honors were awarded during the ceremony, recognizing distinguished students for their school spirit, Christian service and exemplary Prout ideals. Jessica Hart received the Principal’s Award, Mason Feole received the Crusader Award and Rowdie McDonald received the Elizabeth Prout Award.
