PROVIDENCE — As parishes around the diocese host a variety of events to commemorate the closing of the observance of the centennial of apparitions of the Blessed Mother at Fatima (See Around the Diocese calendar on P. 4), Father Joseph Escobar, pastor of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, and organizer of Fatima anniversary events among several Portuguese parishes, is planning three special events at his church, located at 21 Traverse St.

On Tuesday, October 10 at 7 p.m., the movie “The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima” will be presented in the church hall.

Then, at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 13, the anniversary of the final apparition, a concelebrated Mass in English and Portuguese will be followed by a candlelight procession through the church neighborhood.

Finally, on Sunday, October 15 at 11:30 a.m., a Holy Mass in Portuguese will be offered by Fall River Bishop Edgar da Cunha, who will also deliver the homily.

“People have been very attentive to the message of Fatima,” especially during the five-month-long anniversary of the apparitions, as well as the Marian Year proclaimed for all of 2017 by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin ” Father Escobar said, reflecting on the centennial observance, which began on May 13.
