TO THE EDITOR:
I am writing to commend Father Michael Najim on his recent Op-Ed, “A Pastoral Reflection on the Divorced and Remarried: Finding a Way Forward.” His personal experience shows him to be a priest with compassion, sensitivity and vision. As soon as I read it last week, I texted him my encouragement. I also warned him to prepare himself because the naysayers would certainly come home to roost. It would be both wonderful and healthy if in our Church we could raise important questions without the vitriol that too often is rained down on the one who raises the question. Pope Francis is asking important questions for our Church and the “prophets of doom” are not sparing him from their vitriol. Father Najim is in good company indeed! We need more priests like him.
