Father Mario Boeri C.S.

WARWICK — Scalabrini Father Mario Boeri, 86, a priest of the Missionaries of St. Charles (Scalabrinians), died Aug. 30 at Kent County Hospital.

Father Boeri was born in Morfasso in Piacenza, Italy.

He professed his religious vows on Sept. 4, 1941 and was ordained to the priesthood on Sept. 8, 1947. He served in Massachusetts and New York, and at St. Bartholomew Church, Providence, where he ministered as assistant pastor from 1955-58, and pastor from 1958-1970. During his administration at St. Bartholomew, a new parish church was dedicated on April 13, 1947.

For 17 years, Father Boeri also served as a Catholic chaplain on the S.S. Oceanic, a popular cruise ship. In 1998, he retired to the Blessed Scalabrini Residence, North Kingstown.

He is survived by a brother Bernardo Boeri; and a sister Matilde Boeri.

A Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated Sept. 4 at St. Bartholomew Church. Burial was in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
