Family values needed to curb violence

Posted

TO THE EDITOR:

The terror that took place in a Connecticut school was a horrific act by a mentally challenged individual that needed adult influence and moral guidance.

Banning guns is not a solution to the problem. Stopping certain guns to be sold is not a solution to the problem either. First we need to define the problem. Why are more and more people acting out against society and other humans? Why do these people have such poor interaction with others and their family? It lies deep in the family structure and how children are being raised today.

This country was built around our Creator's gifts of the Ten Commandments. I was brought up in a strict Catholic home and remember the times my dad chased me around with a barber's belt even though I can't remember what I did that was so bad. I thank my parents for being so strict and not letting me get away with even the little stuff. I respect authority and the rights of those around me.

Until we bring God back into our lives, have strong family bonds with our children and teach them moral and ethical values, our society will continue to fall into the gutter of inhumanity.
