PAWTUCKET – Denise B. Tremblay, for 20 years the friendly voice heard by callers to the circulation department of The Providence Visitor (now Rhode Island Catholic) died July 5 at Memorial Hospital, Pawtucket.

She was 57 years old. She was the wife of Robert R. Tremblay; they had been married 36 years.

As the circulation manager for the newspaper of the Diocese of Providence, Mrs. Tremblay was responsible for all mailings and list maintenance. Often, she seemed to know virtually every reader who called, asking them questions like, “Aren’t you late getting back from Florida this year?” She also coordinated press and production work between Day Printing Co. of New London, which prints the newspaper, and the Providence Post Office. Every year, she had the responsibility of coordinating the subscription campaign at all the parishes in Rhode Island.

Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of Gloria I. (Harkness) Bessette of Central Falls and the late Gerard J. Bessette Sr.

In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by two brothers, Gerard J. Bessette Jr. of Warwick, and Robert F. Bessette of Pawtucket; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister-in-law of the late Alyce M. Bessette.

A Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated July 10 in St. Jude Church, Lincoln, by Msgr. Paul Theroux, Fr. Bernard Healey, Fr. Stanley Nakowicz, and Fr. Bernard C. Lavin, pastor of St. Jude Church and homilist for the service. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
