Deacon Frederick A. Young

WARWICK — Deacon Frederick A. Young, a deacon assistant assigned to St. Martha Church, East Providence, died Feb. 19.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Mary T. Young and the late Frederick A. Young Jr.

He graduated from the former St. Sebastian School and Hope High School, both in Providence; the former St. Francis College, Biddeford, Me.; and Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va. He was employed by the State of Rhode Island for 28 years, holding several administrative positions. He retired as a director of social work in the state hospital system. After his retirement he worked as a consultant for various home care agencies.

Deacon Young was ordained in 1977 by Bishop Louis E. Gelineau, and served as Catholic chaplain at Roger Williams Hospital for 13 years and as Deacon assistant at Mary Mother of Mankind Church, North Providence; St. Sebastian and Holy Name churches, Providence; and St. Martha Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated Feb. 27 at St. Martha Church. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
