Charles V. McMahon

PROVIDENCE — Charles V. McMahon, 95, the grandfather of Father Michael Colello, died March 4 at Oakhill Nursing Home, Pawtucket. He was the husband of the late Ann (Howard) McMahon.

Born in Riverside, he was the son of the late Matthew and Agnes (Coyle) McMahon.

He was a letter carrier for more than 36 years for the U.S. Postal Service, working out of the North Station, Providence, and a World War II Army veteran, serving as a Technical Sergeant, fifth grade, as a postal clerk.

He lived most of his life in Providence, and previously in Warren, and was a parishioner of St. Paul Church, Cranston. He was a member of the Letter Carriers Association and was a devoted worshipper at St. Francis Chapel, Providence.

In addition to Father Colello, he is survived by three sons, Charles McMahon of Smithfield, Brian McMahon of Providence and Mark McMahon of Las Vegas; two daughters, Catherine McMahon of Providence and Paula Colello of Wakefield; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Joseph, Matthew, Bernard, Andrew and Richard McMahon, Catherine Palmer, Agnes Saul, Frances Clement and Eileen McMahon.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 10 at St. Paul Church. Burial with military honors was in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
