Catholic schools welcome new principals

PROVIDENCE — The diocesan School Office announced that there are five new principals and two interim principals in Catholic schools throughout the state.

Among the new elementary school principals are Maureen Jannetta, St. Luke School, Barrington; Alice Connolly Clancy, St. Mary Academy-Bay View, East Providence; Judith Desrosiers, St. Mary School, Pawtucket; and Paula Bailey, Msgr. Matthew F. Clarke Catholic Regional School, Wakefield. St. Mary Academy-Bay View also appointed Cynthia Lorincz principal of middle school.

The interim principals are Religious Teachers Filippini Sister Carmela Santarsiero, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Bristol and Joan Sickinger, St. Peter School, Warwick.

Joan Sickinger began her teaching career at St. Peter School in 1980, and has taught preschool, kindergarten and more recently grades three and four.

Filippini Sister Carmela Santarsiero, is beginning her fourth year at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School. She began her ministry there as the school’s librarian and then served as a first and second grade teacher. Prior to coming to Rhode Island, Sister Santarsiero served as a principal in Waterbury and Middletown, Connecticut.

Maureen Jannetta began her teaching career in 1989 at St. Benedict’s Hearth Preschool. After having taught at Holy Name of Jesus and St. Bartholomew schools in Providence for nine years, Jannetta was appointed principal of St. Peter School in Warwick, where she remained for seven years until being named principal of St. Luke School.

Alice Connolly Clancy, an elementary school teacher and reading specialist for 22 years prior to becoming an elementary school principal in the Newport School System, has been named elementary school principal at St. Mary Academy Bay-View.

Cynthia Lorincz, former teacher and assistant principal at St. Mary Academy Bay-View for 14 years, has been named the school’s first middle school principal. She previously taught at Mercymount Country Day School, Cumberland.

Judith Desrosiers, who has taught at the elementary level at St. Mary School, Willimantic, CT, St. Vincent DePaul and St. John the Baptist schools in West Warwick and St. Rose of Lima and St. Francis of Assisi schools in Warwick, has been appointed principal of St. Mary School. Prior to her appointment, she was the school’s second grade teacher for 12 years.

Paula Bailey, who was a secondary level teacher for 23 years in the Glocester School System and a middle school assistant principal in Warwick for 9 years, has been named principal of Msgr. Matthew F. Clarke Catholic Regional School.
