Brother Oscar A. J. Aubin

BURRILLVILLE — Sacred Heart Brother Oscar A. J. Aubin, 89, of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Provincial House, Pascoag, died January 15 at St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. He was formerly known as Brother Jogues.

Born in Blackstone, Mass., he was the son of the late Frederic and Marie Jeanne (Lozeau) Aubin.

He entered the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in August 1931 at St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada. Brother Aubin pronounced his first vows in 1934 and his perpetual vows in 1940 at Mont Sacre Coeur, Granby, Quebec. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Montreal in 1947 and also completed additional studies in library science.

Brother Aubin ministered for 55 years as a teacher, director and librarian in schools conducted by his religious community in New England and Africa. Upon his retirement, he served as a Eucharistic minister and visitor to patients in hospitals and nursing homes in Nashua, N.H. from 1990 to 1996, when he retired to the Provincial House. He celebrated his 70th year of religious profession in 2004.

He is survived by a sister, Margaret Aubin of New Hampshire.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated January 20 in the Chapel of the Provincial House. Burial was in the Brothers’ Cemetery, Pascoag.
