Brother Ernest J. Loiselle

BURRILVILLE — Brother Ernest J. Loiselle, 76, of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Provincial House, died January 27 at Bayberry Commons Nursing Home, Pascoag. He was formerly known as Brother Alexis-Ernest.

Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Adrien and Ida (Parent) Loiselle.

He entered the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in March 1951 at Sharon, Mass. He pronounced his first vows in 1952 at Mount St. Charles Academy, Woonsocket, where he also professed his perpetual vows in 1958.

Brother Loiselle ministered as a teacher in Maine, Massachusetts, Louisiana, Mississippi, Canada and England. He also ministered in music ministry and as a receptionist, and was an active promoter of evangelization and conducted mission appeals. He was assigned to the Provincial House in 1997 and retired in 2001 because of illness.

He is survived by three brothers, Joseph A. G. of North Smithfield, John Loiselle of Florida and Joseph of Orleans, Mass; and a sister, Madeleine Pate of Pawtucket. He was also the brother of the late Wilfred and Norbert Loiselle.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated February 2 in the Chapel of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. Burial was in the Brothers’ Cemetery.
