LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Avoid insults, strive for rhetoric that reflects gospel

Posted

TO?THE?EDITOR:

Conversation in my circle of peers often centers around the lack of civility that is most apparent in the political and talk show world. How disappointing to see this similar type of rhetoric in the Rhode Island Catholic in the March 8, 2012 edition.

Intelligent, faithful, credible Catholic groups such as LCWR and Jesuits were called in the editorial “Ut unum sint”— “useful idiots.” In my opinion, dialogue, not judgment or insult, is the Gospel value to employ when there are differing viewpoints. I would expect the Rhode Island Catholic to reflect those Gospel values.
