LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Autism article wonderful boost for our new program

To the Editor:

Sincerest thanks to Assistant Editor Brain J. Lowney for his wonderful article on St. Peter’s Church newest faith formation program, Autism and the Sacraments, in the Thursday, April 3 edition of the Rhode Island Catholic.

We were thrilled that Mr. Lowney was able to attend the first meeting held for parents of children on the autism spectrum, as well as parish representatives from all over the Diocese of Providence. The turnout for this informational session was nothing short of amazing.

The stories shared that evening by families seeking a program of this kind for their autistic children were heartfelt and very personal to witness; Mr. Lowney’s article conveyed this in a caring and respectful way. He also explained perfectly the curriculum and outline of this new facet in faith formation. We’ve since received a great number of inquiries from families in need and others offering to volunteer their assistance because of his article.

In a time when so many news outlets choose to present only that which is “sensational,” we are most appreciative to have had our story told with such understanding and compassion (and on the front page!)

Thank you so much for helping us share this necessary program with your readers, and please keep the next steps of our new program in your prayers.
