Articles on polls reveal anti-life bias

TO THE EDITOR:

In recent days two different polls on abortion have been reported by the Providence Journal: “Abortion foes: Poll question bogus,” and “Poll: late-term abortion widely opposed in R.I.” The first article asked only one main question “would you support or oppose the General Assembly passing a bill to protect legalized abortion in the State.” Abortion is already legal in Rhode Island up to viability FOR ANY REASON and beyond under some conditions. So legality is not what the “next session of the General Assembly” is about. EXPANDING abortion up to birth is the goal. The second poll actually addressed the NEXT SESSION’S intentions more clearly. It specifically addressed late-term abortions and their methodologies. Since voters’ thinking on this issue is usually more complicated than a “yes or no” answer, this poll gives a better assessment of the Rhode Island voter’s point of view on late-term abortions. In both cases the writer mentions the organizations that commissioned the polls. However, how the articles dealt with this question clearly shows the pro-abortion bias of the author and the newspaper.
