Nominations are open for this year’s Lumen Gentium Awards

LINCOLN — The Diocese of Providence will host the annual Lumen Gentium Awards on May 17, 2017 at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln. The diocesan awards formally recognize those who have made significant contributions to the life of the Church in the diocese, working tirelessly, and often without compensation or acclaim because of their devotion to the Church. Nominations for the awards are open now until February 10. The 10 categories in which nominees may be considered for the awards are: Parish Service, Community Service and Charitable Outreach, Catholic Education, Evangelization, Communications, Administration and Stewardship, Respect Life, Public Service, Distinguished Catholic Youth and Friend of the Diocese. Masses for the deaf, hard of hearing

PROVIDENCE — The diocesan Ministry for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing has announced the following Masses: First Sunday of every month at St. Charles Borromeo, Woonsocket, 9 a.m. Every Sunday at St. Jean Baptiste, Warren, 9 a.m. Second Sunday of every month at Christ the King, South Kingston, 11 a.m., after Labor Day 11:35 a.m. Third Sunday of every month at St. Michael’s, Providence, 9:30 a.m. in the lower hall. St. Brigid’s Church to host bowling day for families

JOHNSTON — St. Brigid Church Social Ministry will host a fun day for families and friends on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Town Hall Bowling Lanes, 1463 Atwood Ave., from 1:45 – 4 p.m. Children under 5 years of age bowl free. ‘Cosmic Christmas’ comes to McVinney

PROVIDENCE — “Cosmic Christmas,” a stage play based on the novella by Max Lucado, has been adapted and written by Rhode Island native and poetess, Sarah Ashley, and is directed by Trinity Repertory Company’s Jackie Davis. ‘Stand and Light Up the Night’ film to be shown at Holy Ghost Church

TIVERTON — A free viewing of the new short film entitled “Stand and Light Up the Night,” will be held at Holy Ghost Church, 316 Judson St., on Monday, Jan. 30, from 7 – 8 p.m. The film features five young and brave advocates for the unborn. Mass for Recovery announced

PORTSMOUTH — A Mass for Recovery will take place on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 5 p.m., at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road. This quarterly Mass is part of the St. Matthias Ministry of the Diocese of Providence. It focuses on assisting with prayer and encouragement to all who are recovering from addictions of any kind, as well as those suffering from any mental or emotional distress or anxiety. It is also for those who are friends and family of those in recovery, as they too benefit from coming together in prayer and praise of our God who brings healing to all. Rhode Island Knights of Columbus to host Pro-life Dinner

PAWTUCKET — Rhode Island Knights of Columbus to host their annual Pro-life Dinner on Saturday, Jan. 28, at St. Cecilia Church, 1253 Newport Ave. The evening begins with Mass celebrated at 4:30 p.m. followed by cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. in St. Cecilia Church Hall. Women of Grace Study Program to begin new program in January

Monthly Grief Support Group meeting at The Villa at Saint Antoine

NORTH SMITHFIELD — Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island will offer an off-site monthly general grief support group meeting at the Villa at Saint Antoine, 400 Mendon Road, open to any person experiencing the profound effects of loss and grief. Meetings are happening on the second Wednesday of the month from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the following dates: February 8, March 8, April 12 and May 10. The Center for Hope & Healing support groups are facilitated as mutual support groups and participants do not have to have lost a loved one while in the care of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island. Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe to visit parishes across diocese

Hope and Cope meetings announced

PORTSMOUTH — The future meetings of the Hope and Cope group at St. Barnabas Church have been announced. Hope and Cope is a faith-based support group intended for those struggling with or supporting a family member or a friend struggling with alcohol or drug addictions or mental distress. Open to everyone interested in this ministry. Hope and Cope is held in the Chapel Meeting Room, under the small chapel, from 5 to 6 p.m. This program is free and no registration is required.
