St. Thomas More Society to sponsor Red Mass

PROVIDENCE — The St. Thomas More Society will sponsor its annual Red Mass, Oct. 5, 5:30 p.m., at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, One Cathedral Square. St. Francis of Assisi Celebration to be held at Cathedral Square

PROVIDENCE — In honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the Office of Life & Family Ministry will host a celebration called “God Saw How Good It Was” on October 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cathedral Hall, One Cathedral Square, Providence. Enjoy a reflection on St. Francis by Father James Ruggieri, a presentation by Rhode Island Catholic columnist and blogger Bill Patenaude and a candlelight service.

Attendees will have an opportunity to take the Catholic Climate Covenant’s St. Francis Pledge and join over 4,000 Catholic diocese, schools, and individuals by committing themselves to protecting God’s creation and advocating on behalf of people in poverty. Annual Haunted Labyrinth promises fun, excitement

CRANSTON – The Rejoice in Hope Center, 804 Dyer Ave., will host the annual Haunted Labyrinth, Sept. 30 - Oct. 31, Friday - Sunday nights, 7 p.m. until the last guest leaves. Our Lady of the Rosary Church plans anniversary celebration

PROVIDENCE – Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 463 Benefit St., will hold a concelebrated Mass of Thanksgiving in honor of the parish’s 125th anniversary, Oct. 9, 3 p.m. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will be the main celebrant and homilist. According to Father Joseph Escobar, pastor, Our Lady of the Rosary Church is the second oldest church in the United States ministering to the Portuguese community. St. Thomas Becket Association plans lecture

PROVIDENCE – The Thomas Becket Association will hold its annual lecture, Sept. 30, 5 p.m., in the Petteruti Lounge, Stephen Roberts Campus Center on the main green of Brown University. Dr. John Haught, a Catholic theologian and research fellow at the Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., will present a lecture entitled “Making Sense of Evolution: God, Darwin and the Drama of Life.” A reception will follow. African Catholic Community to host anniversary celebration

PROVIDENCE – The African Catholic Community of Rhode Island will mark the 10th anniversary of its foundation with a concelebrated Mass, Sept. 25, 4:30 p.m., at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 99 Camp St. Francis Cardinal Arinze, prefect emeritus of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments will be the principal celebrant. St. Francis of Assisi Parish sets fall festival

WAKEFIELD – St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High St., will hold a fall festival, Sept. 30-Oct. 2., beginning with a pasta and meatball dinner, Sept. 30, 5 p.m., in Father Greenan Hall. Following dinner, there will be a Bubblefest from 6-7 p.m., and entertainment provided by the Wakefield Concert Band, 7 p.m. A traditional animal blessing honoring St. Francis will be held Oct. 1, noon. The celebration will continue with the installation of Msgr. Paul Theroux as pastor during a concelebrated Mass, Oct. 1, 5:30 p.m. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will be the main celebrant. St. Pius X to sponsor Walk-for-Life

WESTERLY - St. Pius X Church, 45 Elm St., will sponsor the 11th annual Walk-for-Life, October 2, following the 10:30 a.m. Mass. The three-mile walk will start and finish at St. Pius X Church, and include a brief prayer service at the Tomb of the Unborn in St. Sebastian Cemetery. Refreshments will be served following the walk. PROVIDENCE – The diocesan Office of Life and Family Ministry will sponsor a Rachel’s Vineyard weekend retreat, Oct. 14, 5 p.m.-Oct. 16, 4 p.m. The retreat, themed “A Journey to Healing for Anyone Hurting After Abortion,” provides an opportunity for any woman or man who struggles with the emotional or spiritual pain of abortion to begin the healing process following an abortion.
