Cookie Sale scheduled

JOHNSTON — The bakers of St. Brigid Church, 1231 Plainfield St., will present colorful homemade cookies for sale following Masses on the weekend of March 23. The sale will be held following the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturday, March 23 and the 8 and 10 a.m. Masses on Sunday March 24. Trays may be reserved by calling Anna at 944-3645, or Angela at 944-3945.

All-Day Confessions to reduce anxiety for penitents

WOONSOCKET — On Saturday, March 16, from 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Catholics will have an opportunity to take part in the sacrament of reconciliation at St. Joseph Church, 1200 Mendon Road, on a day specifically designed to alleviate any uneasiness they may have about confessing. More than 20 priests from around the diocese — with several speaking multiple languages — will hear confessions, with both behind a screen and face-to-face options available in each confessional. Volunteers will also be on hand to answer questions and written instructions will be provided. Music will be playing to ensure that those making a confession will not be heard by others. Knights to host Irish Dinner

NORTH KINGSTOWN — The Knights of Columbus will hold an Irish Dinner at the Council Hall, 1265 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown, on Saturday, March 23, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The dinner will feature corned beef and cabbage, boiled potatoes and carrots, along with pea soup. Irish bread and butter, as well as coffee and tea will be served. Please call 295-0507 and leave a message by March 21 for reservations. St. Pius to host inspirational speaker

WESTERLY — On March 15, Frank Kelly, author of the book “Short Circuit to God,” will speak about his life growing up in a devout Irish Catholic family in South Boston, and about how in 1985, he miraculously survived what should have been a lethal dose of electricity. Faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, his ministry consists of Healing Services which includes praying with individuals. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with Mass at St. Pius X Church, adjacent to 44 Elm St., with the talk and a healing service to follow. For more information, call 596-2535.

Diocesan-wide Bone Marrow Drive planned

PROVIDENCE — With 15-year-old parishioner Gabriel Ibarra (who is also a freshman at Bishop Hendricken High School) in need of a lifesaving bone-marrow transplant, St. Joseph Parish, in conjunction with the Our Lady of Fatima Council of the Knights of Columbus, will hold a diocesan-wide Bone Marrow/Blood Drive on Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the hall of SS. Peter and Paul, Cathedral Square. While the Blood Drive is open to any healthy individual who can normally give blood, the Bone Marrow Drive especially seeks individuals age 18-44. The test is simple, just a swab of one’s inner cheek cells, and there are no out-of-pocket costs to participants. ‘Father Rocky’ to speak at Heart of Worship event

Missionaries to host Lenten Fish Fry

BARRINGTON — The 2013 St. Luke’s Jamaica Missionaries will host their annual Lenten Fish Fry on Friday, March 15 from 5-7 p.m. in the school gym, 10 Waldron Ave. A fish dinner, along with water, soda coffee and pastry will be available, as well as grilled cheese for those who do not prefer fish. Holy Cross Guild planning Bake Sale

PROVIDENCE — The women of the Holy Cross Guild will host their annual Palm Sunday Bake Sale in the church hall on Palm Sunday weekend. The sale, which will take place in the Holy Cross Church Hall, 645 Hartford Ave., on Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, March 24, from 9 a.m.-noon, will feature an array of traditional homemade cookies assorted cakes and pastries. Saint James to host ‘Glorify’ Lenten Mission

MANVILLE — Saint James Church, 33 Division St., will host ‘Glorify: Praise and Worship,’ on Monday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature eucharistic adoration, and engaging, faith-filled music. St. Anthony presents Lenten Mission.

NORTH PROVIDENCE — Father Mark Sauriol presents, "Discovering Christ in the Stories of our Lives," March 18-20 at 7 p.m. in Saint Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Ave. Father’s presentation will lead participants on a journey through Scripture, myth and storytelling, serving as an opportunity for reflection as to the direction in which they are being called. Right to Life sponsoring Oratory Contest

PROVIDENCE — R.I. Right to Life will host the 2013 Dr. Mildred Jefferson Memorial High School Pro-Life Oratory Contest on Saturday, April 6, from 9:30 a.m. - noon at St. Patrick Church, 244 Smith St. Contestants must prepare and deliver a five-to-seven-minute speech on a pro-life topic, such as abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, assisted suicide, embryonic stem cell experimentation or the protection of human embryos. First prize includes a trip to compete at the national contest in Dallas. Cash awards will also be given for second to fifth place finalists. Only those contestants who are high school juniors and seniors are qualified to represent the state in the National Right to Life Oratory Contest. Entry deadline is April 1. Gathering to pray a rosary for the unborn

BRISTOL — The Knights of Columbus Bristol Council 379 invites individuals to pray for the prevention of abortions and to offer healing to women and men who have suffered the pain of an abortion by praying a rosary for the unborn. The event is scheduled for Saturdays at 2 p.m. from the Monument to the Unborn at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, 141 State St., with the next four rosaries planned for March 16, April 20, May 18 and June 15.
