Feinstein Institute offers seminar

PROVIDENCE — The Feinstein Institute of Providence College, One Cunningham Square, will host a semester-long seminar entitled “Reimagining Community: Service and Social Action,” Feb. 8-May 17. The seminar, designed for local community service practitioners, will study the impact that service organizations have in meeting the needs of the community. There is a fee for seminar materials. St. Leo Church sponsors spaghetti dinner

PAWTUCKET — St. Leo Church will sponsor a spaghetti dinner, Jan. 24, noon-2 p.m., in the school hall, 725 Central Ave. The buffet-style dinner will include spaghetti, meatballs, sausages, lasagna, tossed salad, bread and butter, dessert, coffee and punch. Our Lady of Grace hosts Mardi Gras

JOHNSTON — The St. Ann’s Society of Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Road, will host a Mardi Gras celebration, Feb. 13, 6 p.m., in Fioretti Hall. The menu will include hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, antipasto, soup, pasta, stuffed chicken or scrod, potato, vegetable, “Mardi Gras King Cake,” homemade Italian cookies, wine and coffee. R. I. Power and Light holds conference

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island Interfaith Power and Light will hold a winter conference, Feb. 11, 4:30-9:30 p.m., at La Salle Academy, 612 Academy Ave. The conference, entitled “Improving Our Stewardship of Creation: Where are the Resources We Need?” will offer information on interfaith community gardens, sustainability, environmental education and more. The interfaith conference will include workshops, vendors, and a keynote panel discussion directing participants to resources and programs to become more energy efficient, including U.S. stimulus funds. Project Gabriel hosts volunteer workshop at Sts. John and James

PROVIDENCE — Project Gabriel, a program that is committed to offering assistance to women and families facing crisis pregnancy, will host a workshop for new volunteers, Feb. 27, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at Sts. John and Paul Church, 341 South Main St., Coventry. The workshop will provide an overview of the Gabriel Project and will focus on communication skills and volunteer responsibilities. Father Colello continues Catechism course at St. Margaret Church

Knights hold National Guard fundraiser

CRANSTON — The Cranston Knights of Columbus, Council No. 1738, will hold a fundraiser to benefit the R.I. National Guard Family Assistance Center, Jan. 23, 6 p.m., at the council headquarters, 1047 Park Ave. The fundraiser will include a buffet dinner, entertainment and several raffles. Knights sponsor benefit Sunday breakfast

St. Pius V Church holds lecture on Aquinas

St. Brigid celebrates patronal feast

JOHNSTON — St. Brigid Church, 1231 Plainfield St., will celebrate the Solemnity of St. Brigid, Jan. 30 at the 5 p.m. Mass and Jan. 31 at the 8 and 10 a.m. Masses. Butter will be blessed and distributed to worshippers as a reminder of how St. Brigid cared for the poor by providing dairy products to the less fortunate people in her village of Kildare in Ireland. PROVIDENCE – Providence College President Dominican Father Brian J. Shanley will deliver the annual St. Thomas Aquinas Lecture, Jan. 25, 4 p.m., in the Aquinas Hall Lounge. The lecture, entitled “Thomas Aquinas on Demonstrating God’s Providence,” is sponsored by the College’s Center for Catholic and Dominican Studies (CCDS), which will host a reception following the presentation.
